Between 31 May – 8 June the first external course was conducted at Entoto Training Centre by Ethiopian Mine Action Office (EMAO) with assistance from NPA MA Ethiopia. 9 representatives from South Sudan Demining Authority (SSDA), United Nation Mine Action Office in Sudan (UNMAO) and NPA MA Sudan participated in a Mine Detection Dog Introduction Course. Bjørn Heidenstrøm at the UNHCR

Bjørn “Bobby” Heidenstrøm, a marketing and media manager for Vålerenga FC, former football player in the British league and hobby cyclist from Norway, visited Sudan 27 February to 10 March on his way to South Africa for the World Cup 2010. His goal is to raise awareness of the plight of refugees around world. His tools are the popularity of football and the power of the media. Read more

The Norwegian Consul General, Ingrid Ofstad with Partners at the University of Juba

On 10 March, 150 people attended the celebration of the higher education partnership between Sudan and Norway in a conference hall at Nyakuron Cultural Centre in Juba. Several of the partners presented their work, and dancers from the University of Juba succeeded in attracting even the Norwegians to the dance floor. Read more

Abolishment of Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (FGM/C) is an important issue in Sudan. Read more

The world’s biggest operation to disarm, demobilize and reintegrate (DDR) former soldiers was launched in Ed-Damazin on February 10. The aim is that as many as 180 000 former soldiers and militias will participate in this process over the next four years.  Norway contributes 25 mill NOK to the programme. Read more
