Norway&Sudan - Strengthened Relations

Last updated: 26/07/2012 // Ambassador Jens-Petter Kjemprud yesterday met NCP External Relations chairperson Ibrahim Ghandour. The two agreed that bilateral relations between Norway and Sudan has been strengthened.

Ibrahim Ghandour praised Norway’s consistent positions in relations with Sudan, as in the follow up of the CPA and Sudan’s negotiations with South Sudan. Ghandour was optimistic in hoping for a comprehensive deal between Sudan and South Sudan, saying that it is a priority for Sudan to have good sisterly relations with South Sudan. The two also discussed the forthcoming Sudanese constitution making process.

 As for the bilateral relations ambassador Kjemprud emphasized Norway’s commitment to the long term cooperation in the oil sector, the new cooperation in the fisheries sector as well as the Norwegian initiative and commitment to co-hosting an economic conference for Sudan (“the Istanbul conference”). He said this was an acknowledgment of the importance of economic development in Sudan. Ibrahim Ghandour praised these initiatives and Norway’s role.
