Speaker to visit Norway

Last updated: 11/10/2011 // The Speaker of the National Assembly in Sudan Ahmed Ibrahim Al Tahir will meet his Norwegian counterpart Dag Terje Andersen when visiting Norway 20-22 October.

The Speaker will head a delegation of six including the chairmen of the Foreign Relations and Economic Relations Commitees, Mahdi Ibrahim Mohamed and El Zubair Ahmed El Hassan as well as the chairwoman of the Legislation and Gender Relations Comittee, Badria Sulaiman Abass. The visit aims at strengthening relations between the two Parliaments as well as discussing bilateral and current issues.

The Speaker expressed gratitude for the active role Norway has played in the peace deliberations in Sudan as well for the support in the oil sector when meeting ambassador Jens-Petter Kjemprud last Sunday. The two also discussed the challenges and benefits of the Nordic welfare state model and what experiences Sudan could benefit from in their economic development model. Further the upcoming economic conference for Sudan, supported by Norway, was discussed.

While in Norway the Speaker will meet the President (Speaker) of the Norwegian Parliament Dag Terje Andersen and other members of Parliament and learn about the Norwegian model, as well as meeting with members of the Government.
