More than 25 Sudanese have been through exchange programmes in Norway the last few years, while another 11 Sudanese have been through similar South-South Exchange programmes. 20 Norwegians have been through this programme in Sudan. The main cooperation partner in Sudan is Afhad University.

Sudan is a natural place for developing solar power. In a small solar plant assembly in Soba outside Khartoum around 2 MW solar panels are produced annually. The Minister of Science and Technology Eissa Bushra Mohamed says the potential is many fold in Sudan.

Dana Haj Hamad is a psychologist working at Afhad University for Women in Omdurman; Physiotherapy department. From November 2009 until September 2010 she was part of an FK-Exchange programme at Bergen University College. She says she was exposed to new ideas which could benefit her work in Sudan.

A two days conference on the above topic was held on 2nd and 3rd October 2011. The conference idea was developed in response to the Norwegian Initiative to hold an International Donor Conference this year to discuss the economic situation and needs of Sudan after the separation of the Southern Sudan as an independent country in 9th July 2011.
