FK Norway. Active in Sudan

Professor Rune Nilsen at University of Bergen was last week awarded a honorary Doctorate of Science by the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Science and Technology (UST), Omdurman.

A two days conference on the above topic was held on 2nd and 3rd October 2011. The conference idea was developed in response to the Norwegian Initiative to hold an International Donor Conference this year to discuss the economic situation and needs of Sudan after the separation of the Southern Sudan as an independent country in 9th July 2011.

“I am extremely impressed by the quality and scope of studies at Afhad University for Women (AUW) in Omdurman and proud of the extensive cooperation with Norwegian Universities” said ambassador Jens-Petter Kjemprud during a visit at AUW yesterday. He expressed strong support for the cooperation and its continuation and possible expansion.

With Norwegian funding, statisticians from Statistics Norway have been supporting a range of surveys in Sudan over the last few years. Stein Terje Vikan is one of the people who have helped the Sudanese sister agency make sense of the numbers.
