Norwegian professor awarded honorary doctorate in Omdurman

Last updated: 15/01/2012 // Professor Rune Nilsen at University of Bergen was last week awarded a honorary Doctorate of Science by the Faculty of Dentistry, University of Science and Technology (UST), Omdurman.

The faculty has a very close and fruitful collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Bergen (UiB). This collaboration, started 2005, have achieved a lot in research, scientific meetings, capacity building, and students’ exchange.

UST decided to award Professor Rune Nilsen this degree in recognition of the significant support of the UiB to Sudan in general and to UST in particular. In addition, the degree is awarded in appreciation of the positive contribution of Professor Rune Nilsen to education, research, capacity building and governance of such activities, internationally, but also specifically to developing countries.

The diploma was handed to Professor Rune Nilsen in a ceremony Wednesday 4th January at the International Hall at UST.
In conjunction with the award ceremony a Conference was held during the period 5th – 7th January 2012. Five professors from the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, UiB delivered lectures during this scientific meeting.

Dean, Faculty of Dentistry, dr. odont. Raouf Wahab Ali, told the Embassy that the cooperation with the University of Bergen was unique and that the UST looked forward to continued cooperation. Mr. Henrik Lunden represented the Embassy during the award ceremony.
