Support to regional institute on gender and diversity

03/01/2010 // The Ahfad University for Women in Omdurman receives USD 1,4 million from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation to establish a regional institute on gender and diversity.

The money contributed to the Afhad University for Women is for the establishment of a regional Institute of Gender, Diversity, Peace and Rights in partnership with Addis Abeba University in Ethiopia and Makarere University in Uganda.

Promoting knowledge and networks
The grant amounts to 8 million Norwegian Kroner (approx. USD 1,4 million), and will be provided over a four-year period from 2010 until 2014. The project is aimed at enhancing the institutional capacities of the three universities, and to promote knowledge, networking and exchange of experience within the region. The aim is to direct policy and enhance dialogue and indigenous curriculum development on issues like gender and respect for diversity.
